How Will Child Custody Be Determined?
Uncontested Divorce Mediation
Posted January 5, 2016
At Split Simple, our top priority when working with a family that has children is to find a child custody solution that serves the best interests of the child. We know that’s your priority as well.
In Colorado, “the best interests of the child” is the primary determinant for child custody (called “parental responsibility” in Colorado). As such, when we work with Denver-area clients to reach a divorce settlement, we make sure the custody conversation stays focused on relevant, tangible considerations, not past resentments.
Our attorney-mediators will work with both parties to craft a parenting plan that addresses child custody (among a range of other issues). When working out child custody, we will consider a number of factors, including:
- The child’s wishes
- The wishes of each parent
- Any history of domestic violence
- Convenience for the child as it relates to proximity to schools and other important institutions
- The physical proximity of the two residences
It’s important to remember that these arrangements, like every aspect of the settlement we will work out, are not handed down by our attorney-mediators. Instead, we work collaboratively with our clients to find the right solutions.

If you live in or around Denver, Boulder or any other Colorado community and you’re looking for an attorney-mediator with experience in child custody issues, please call Split Simple today at 855-665-9920 for a free consultation.
